About
I work as a Web Programmer at Eastern Mennonite University, trying to help develop and maintain software systems that foster learning and communication for the EMU community. I live in Harrisonburg which is tucked into the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in western Virginia with my wife.
Photography is somewhat of a release for me, a break from the everyday norm. I enjoy and am captivated by the wonder of Creation. I think that part of the joy, and definitely the challenge, of photography is trying to find meaningful and creative ways of viewing this beauty. Whether it be breath-taking landscapes or simple human interactions.
Hopefully through this site and some of my work you can find a few glimpses of the Creator’s awesome touch and presence in the world around, as well as enjoyment in following my blog as a “photo journal” along the way.
Contact
If there are any of my images on this site that you would be interested in purchasing for print, please feel free to contact me and we can work out the details. I have added some of my images to RedBubble where you can purchase directly from.
Gear/Post-Processing
From the beginning I have used Canon (or Canon compatible) equipment for my photography, not because of any ingrained brand loyalty but because it was what I was familiar with from classroom experiences and have been happy with the results out of the camera. The images you see on this site and on my blog were created with the Canon EOS 5D mark II. I have also been working over the past handle full of years to build up a respectable collection of lenses which include the following:
- Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L*
- Canon EF 300mm f/4L*
- Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L*
- Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
- Canon EF 85mm f/1.8
- Canon Extender EF 1.4x II*
- Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG diagonal fisheye*
- Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG macro
For lighting I use a Canon 580EX II Speedlite Flash, and team that up with the Canon ST-E2 Transmitter* for off-camera lighting (This is an area of photography where I am still learning the ropes, and figuring it out as I go but it is fun experimenting).
Finally, for image post-processing I use Adobe Lightroom 2 (and occasionally Adobe Photoshop CS3, if necessary).
